|The vineyards of Beaulieu nestled in the crater of the only volcano in Provence have thrived now for over 2000 years.|
Chateau Beaulieu, with 140 hectares of vines planted in the heart of the immense crater of the extinct volcano, the “Trévaresse”, at an altitude of 400 metres, is one of the most expansive domains in the region under the Coteaux d’Aix-en-Provence appellation.
The location, which faces the renowned Provencal region of the Lubéron, overlooks the Durance valley, the Abbey of Silvacane and the Roque d’Anthéron, and offers a perfectly diversified ”terroir” well suited to vine growing. The hillsides here have three exposures - North, South and mainly West. In addition to the soil of a clayey-calcareous nature, a major part of the vineyards is planted on volcanic soil characterised by the presence of basalt which endows our wines with a unique quality.
